Spam Blocking
Information about HiWAAY's AnteSpam email spam and virus blocking service.
Question: How do I manage my caught or sidelined spam mail?
Answer:
When HiWAAY's spam filter identifies a message as spam, it doesn't delete it right away. It stores all the caught spam in your sidelined email. You view your sidelined email with your web browser. Most of us rarely look at caught spam, but if you want to view your sidelined email just go to
www.antespam.com. Enter your full email address and email password and you'll see a page that looks like this:
Looking Through the List of Caught Spam
If you're looking for a specific email, you can type a complete or partial address or subject into the Search Fields at the top of the page. This is a great time saver if you have a lot of spam and are trying to find the one that may have been caught by mistake. You can select a specific date from the drop-down menu to view caught email you received on that day or to help narrow the search for a specific address or subject.
If you want to see the all the sidelined email, leave the fields blank. Before you click the
View Emails button, you should click the
Count Emails button first. That will tell you how many email messages you're about to view. Depending on the speed of your computer, viewing more than 2,000 messages at a time could be very slow.
To download the requested or all emails, click the
View Emails button. You can use the
arrow buttons to page forward or backward. You can even enter a specific page number. Note: AnteSpam retains sidelined email for a maximum of seven days and then clears it out to make room for more. Your side-line email list will look like the sample below. Of course your caught spam will be different.
Handling False Positives
All spam filtering services will eventually catch legitimate email. We call these false positives. The old filtering system we used to use did this regularly and provided no way to teach the filters not to catch the good email again in the future. HiWAAY's AnteSpam filtering system makes it easy to keep your good email from getting caught.
If you see a good email caught in your sidelined mail, click the big plus sign
next to the message.
This will open a pop-up box that shows you the sender of the caught email. If you want to add the sender to your pass list, just click OK and the sender's email address is added to your pass list. This keeps any email from that sender from ever getting caught again.
The pop-up window also allows you to edit what you want added to your pass list. You can edit the sender address so that only the domain part of the address is added. This will let all email from that domain always get through. You can even remove the address and add a subject word or phrase. The pass list pop-up is a very powerful tool that makes it easy to tell HiWAAY's AnteSpam what to let through and what to filter.
Sort Your Caught Email
By default, your sidelined email is sorted by time and date. The most recent is on the first page. You can change the list and sort by time, sender, domain, subject, or size. To sort, just click on one of the column names and the resort will resort. Click on the column heading again to reverse the sort. For example, click size to see your list sorted by the smallest message first. Click it again and your list will show the largest message first.
Forwarding Caught Email
Sometimes a legitimate email gets caught by the spam filter. You can easily send any caught message to your mailbox by clicking the
next to the message. If you want to forward all the email in your sidelined mail list, click the checkbox at the top or bottom of the list to select all the boxes. Then click the
at the top or bottom and all the email will be sent to your mailbox. You can also manually check several message boxes and use
at the top or bottom to forward the selected email on to your mailbox.
Deleting Caught Email
AnteSpam automatically deletes all sidelined email after it is seven days old. However, you can also delete caught email yourself by clicking the
next to the message. If you want to delete all the email in your sidelined mail list, click the checkbox at the top or bottom of the list to select all the boxes. Then click the
at the top or bottom and all the sidelined email will be deleted. You can also manually check several message boxes and use
at the top or bottom to delete the selected email.
Viewing Your Caught Email Messages
You can view a single email by clicking on the
. This will make the email expand within the list to display the contents. Click the
to collapse the email contents.
