Huntsville, Ala. (December 10, 1999) - The Port of Huntsville announces the successful
implementation of its updated and redesigned web site. According to Tammie Dodson, Public
Relations Manager for the Port of Huntsville, the site, www.hsvairport.org, offers visitors an
easier path for locating information on Huntsville International Airport, Jetplex Industrial Park
and the International Intermodal Center. "Our web site is now a more user-friendly educational
tool for individuals who want to find information on these entities in a quick and easy manner,"
she said.
"With all that the Port of Huntsville has to offer, we reached the point where there was too much
information and our site was no longer user friendly. It had really become too large for customers
to navigate through easily. At this point, we contacted HiWAAY Information Services
(Huntsville, Ala.) about revamping our site," Dodson said.
According to Cathy Lamberth, web designer at HiWAAY, the project to get the Port of
Huntsville's site up and running involved numerous tasks to ensure all the information was intact
during the redesign process. "HiWAAY first started talking to the Port about the site, created a
design and presented it to them. The project of renavigating the site was so massive, we printed
out every page and laid it out on our office walls. We did this to streamline the navigation and
make it easier for people visiting the site to find the information they desired," she said.
With HiWAAY's redesign of the site, Dodson said customers can now easily locate and use the
many features that make this site so popular. For example, the Flight Information Display System
(FIDS) feature allows customers to see if their flight is on time, delayed or cancelled in real time.
Another feature is the Flight Guide, which is designed to help customers in planning upcoming air
travel.
According to Dodson, the Port of Huntsville estimates it receives an average of more than
30,000 requests for information from the site each month. "Not only do people across the
United States visit our site, but internationally as well," she said.
"It's an everyday tool for someone not only to find arrival and departure times, but also to learn
more about the city of Huntsville. We, at HiWAAY, are proud to be able to provide customers
with this important information and to have taken part in redesigning the Port of Huntsville's web
site," Lamberth said.
